Pedaling the Repovesi mountain biking trail

Finally had the chance to ride the Repovesi mountain biking trail.

The loop is about 20 kilometers long, but Repovesi is a place of many hills…

The ride took about three hours with one snack break at the midway. The Computer says that the route had 471 meters of elevation gain and my average speed was only about 9 km/h, as I needed to hike-the-bike up many hills. Also waiting the rope ferry at the Määkijänsalmi and pulling ourselves to the other shore two times took some time.

Started the trail from the Lapinsalmi where there is a big parking area and a nice little kiosk that sells some food and drinks. I promised an ice cream for myself when I get back here, so I was smiling when riding past the small shop.

I was riding my trusty Tunturi Montauk that has seen some life, but still keeps on going. The front suspension fork has seen it’s bestest days and I was happily surprised how well it still functioned on the rocky paths. I did give the bike some love and care in the spring, but haven’t had a chance to ride that much at all during the summer.

Also some sad news that the legendary company (at least here in Finland) has filed a bankruptcy and future of the company and the brand is unknown.

Also interesting thing to note was that even tho the spec sheet gives the bike weight of 14.7 kg, my luggage scale weighted the bike at 17 kg. I’ve only replaced the seat and added mud guards and small led lights to the bike.

For comparison my SO was riding a Cube that also had an aluminum frame and it weighted only 13 kg on that scale.

I’m wondering whether I should give the bike a complete overhaul for the next season or just move on and get a new Orbea or something?

Also just noticed that another Finnish brand is back: the Pole with their eMTB model Hiisi. At the moment that ride is way out of my price range, starting from like 9,995 € for the frameset alone. – Another interesting company to find out about was Ikuista. Even tho I’m not really into gravel or road cycling, it makes me smile to see that there are artisans out there making slightly better bikes for those who need them.

I’ve spent the whole summer working two jobs and have had way too little time to spent time outdoors. I was happy that I got this chance to ride this trail. And I will do it again at least once this season. – The bike has spent way too much time indoors with my bike-packing ride. – I really need to go outside more.

…till next time.
