While on Kiilopää an opportunity presented itself and I took the advantage of it.
I have been wondering how it feels to ride a fat bike and now I finally had the chance to test one out in a proper environment.
So I rented a fat bike and took it on a spin up and into the fells.
And it was fun at first…
Fatties are really easy to pedal and the low gear ratios and big tires just makes them off-roaders which just roll over anything basicly with ease.

And also the scenery was nice up there above the treeline…

Had some snacks on the way and some refreshing drinks.

But after two hours of riding, all the bad things started to remind me about themselves.
One of the main reasons why I wanted recumbent style ride is the fact that I have issues with my upper back, neck and shoulders. I really need at least upstanding riding posture, so there’s no stress on my shoulders.
Also my tiny little ass don’t like those sport style saddles, even with some padding on them. They just don’t feel comfy at all…
So the verdict still stands: I like my recumbent cruiser. Normal bikes aren’t for me.
The fat bike was fun to ride for the first part, but it started to get really painful and the fun-factor pummeled rapidly. Might consider one as a commuter, if the ride is max half an hour per direction, but not for cruising or bikepacking, etc.
Might also be interesting to test one later in the winter, when there’s snow, ice and slush everywhere, but we’ll get to that later (maybe).
